[GreenKeys] Oops, I got an ASR-33, what is the best current practice for securing for shipment?

Mr. Nabil,

Under the base pan you will find a hole in the middle if you look into
it from
underneath there is a nylon fastener, above the fastener the frame of
the typing
unit also has a hole in it. Common practice is to put a large 1 inch
or larger fender
washer on a #10 sheet metal screw that is 1 1/4 inch long. The screw
is placed
from under and snugged up to keep the typing unit in place during
shipping.

The problem with the 33 and 32 machines is that they are very very top
heavy.
The best way to ship them is by putting them on a small pallet and
drilling holes
thru the pallet where the adjustable feet are. You can then use the
feet as bolts
to secure the machine after removing the rubber pads.

Another way to ship one of these machines is to remove the pedestal
(stand)
completely and ship it separately from the rest of the machine. Any
one of these
steps need to be made carefully with patience as if the machine is not
secured
well you will receive it in pieces. They damage very easily.

There are folks that after spending hundreds of dollars do not trust
the freight
companies and go pick the machines up themselves. That is exactly
what I did
when I picked up my 32 ASR in Indiana.

Good luck,

I sort of accidentally picked up this ASR-33 on ebay, looks kinda
nice, I
for giggles I put $399 into my autobidder fully expecting it to go
for, you
know, $2000 or something, but I guess I got unlucky and now I own it.
Oops.

What is the best current practice for securing the typing mechanism?
Last
time I played with one they seemed to be self-tapping screws, nothing
standard worked well. So maybe a set of screws and some washers? I
don't
want him to over-tighten them and crush the unit down.

It's possible I have an original fiberboard here someplace, but there
were I
think some little round standoffs as well, sort of a little sleeve
with a
flange at one end.

Does anyone have an original shipping mount they could lend me?
