I've got copies of some 1930s vintage Teletypesetter Corp "Technical
Specifications" which list the cusotmer as "Russia." These are mostly
documents laying out the "set widths" of the individual characters in
a font of Linotype matrices. So it would seem that on the Teletypesetter
side the USSR not only used or licensed TTS Corp. equipment but
was actually an "early adopter" of the technology.
As an unrelated Iron Curtain item, here's a 1953 DDR (East German)
