Martin asks
>When was the end of the UK and International Telex system?
Apparently it hasn't happened yet (or is just starting now, in 2010).
See "Telex: A Faint Ping" which appeared in _The Economist_
(Jan 31, 2008 in the UK edition, Feb. 2, 2008, p. 68 in the US edition).
I generally don't post material in copyright, but here, for your
personal scholarly reference, is a low-res copy of it. I'll be taking
this offline soon, so read it quickly.

Or get a version directly from The Economist at:

I believe you can do a 14-day free trial.
If one were, say, a bank, one would have to be utterly insane NOT to have
a Telex - simple, robust, and entirely separate from the public Internet.
The public Internet has its uses, of course, but reliable and secure
communications are not among them.
