I want to remove the typewheel on my ASR33 Teletype to clean it. The
documentation indicates there is a special tool needed to hold the
typewheel when tightening the nut on the top of the typewheel.

Is it possible to remove, clean and reinstall the typewheel without
this tool? If so, what are the instructions?

What can I use to clean the typewheel? Alcohol? Water? ??

Thanks!

Barry,

Forgot mention the solvent. I use Sid Harvey's Fast Drying Degreaser. If
the typewheel is very bad, you may need to use a round toothpick on some
of the letters. After initial cleaning, contact cleaner will do the job
next time. Some other Greenkeyers may help with their favorite solvents.
