Are they described in enough detail in the RTTY Journal?  I have all  
but the last CD of their newsletters and there is quite a lot of the  
old lore in them.

There is a kit company that makes boards for folks quite cheaply.   
They sell LOTS of small kits and project boards, with a copy of the  
original magazine writeup, at fests and over the net.  Can't remember  
their name though. some one will.  They've been around a long time and  
MAY have the board you need.  Of course there are many prototype board  
fabricators that make very small quantities (like 5) boards for quite  
cheap.
