The processor is plenty fast to run rtty.  I had a st-6 running into an 8080 
processor that was running either 2 or 4 mhz.  Just don't remember which. 
Was running  a program I wrote in only 1 K of ram and 2 K of rom that had a 
basic operating system (not the BASIC language).
It takes almost no processing power to run rtty.
