FWIW,

Because it's impossible to buy the 5/16th tape for the Model 14 tape 
printer, I tried to use mylar, 1/4 inch audio tape leader.

It worked perfectly.  There's a lot of that stuff  still available.  At 
least it keeps the machines operable.

We're going to design a jig to split "regular" paper tape at a friend's 
machine/metal shop....
