Howdy guys,
This tty I picked up today has a 83B2 selective calling unit and a type 43 carrier receiver.
I thought it was originally a 28 RO but, has a plastic cover over the keyboard to cover the keys and thus it becomes a RO !! Never saw that before.
The base is loaded with power supplies, WECo rack mount type. Multiple chassis with tubes and other equipment.
It's totally documented with blue prints and prints for the stunt box and, I guess Answer Back. On the left side below the paper crank handle, there is a large magnet operated lever....I'm wondering if this was an automatic carriage return, line feed option.
The machine is dirty but definitely very restorable shape. The electrical control chassis is unusual looking too....it has a PC card stuck in a socket on the right side. There's a lot of stunt box options...all shown in the drawings...just gotta figure out the Bell System lingo.
It was in service from '69 to about '76. Has all the service cards showing the tech's work on it. The fellow that put it on Craigs did a good thing by saving this old beast...I guess Bell walked away from it ! !
Just gotta replace the glass window, red jewles for EOL etc. The cabinet was taken care of but, strangely, on the right side, a hole was cut into the cabinet and a 4 inch muffin fan installed...apparently the tubes in the base caused her to run hot.
I'll try to get my son to give me a URL for the pix a little later. All in all, snatching it from the grips of the garbage truck's compactor arm was well worth the effort. It'll be a nice running machine again...
