It's a great deal:
1) Find a railroad that was built over an "easement" on private property.
2) When the railroad operator no longer wants to operate the line, don't
abandon it!
3) Instead, apply for "Rails to Trails." That way, the railroad company can
"loan" the easement to another group until <LOL> the railroad company
decides they want the railroad back.
4) The trail authority who now has control of the right of way can make lots
of money leasing it to the fiber optic company.
5) There's no need to respect the property rights of the original landowner
who receives nothing in exchange for breaking the original terms of the
easement.
