At the Bell System Center for Technical Education (BSCTE) the
instructor's favorite saying was:
"The only dumb question is the one you don't ask."

After the green books were very outdated AT&T published the red books.

There are three volumes:

Telecommunications Transmission Engineering - Volume 1 Principles ---
First Edition 1974 / Second Edition 1977
Telecommunications Transmission Engineering - Volume 2 Facilities
--- First Edition 1977
Telecommunications Transmission Engineering - Volume 3 Networks ---
First Edition 1975

These and other references are usually available at http://www.abebooks.com

Now you have my curiosity up. What are the Red Books? Please forgive
my ignorance...I am relatively new to this.

Thankyou much,

To the best of my knowledge there are four editions.

1928/1929 First
1938/1941 Second
1953 Third
1961 Fourth

The 1929 and 1941 are just reprints with a small number of corrections.

You might also find the Red Books to be valuable unless your only
interest is telegraphy.
