Somehow my comments were edited in a such way as to not represent what
I had intented to say.

Motorola lobbied congress for these changes to be made.  The original
poster asked who did the lobbying, I responded that that question was easy
to answer because Motorola did a significant amount of that lobbying...
for benefit of both their public service radio business and their
digital TV converter business.  I watched the proceedings on CSPAN to
my amazement.

The crime that I try to educate people about is what the cable TV
companies and the electronics retailers are doing to take advantage
of people who do not understand what this change means.  Very few
non-technically oriented people understand the difference between digital
broadcast and HDTV.  The guilty parties have done very little to make
that difference known and clearly understood.  In fact, they do quite
the opposite to take advantage of people to convince them to buy things
they really do not need.  So, that is the "crime" I was refering to.
