Roy and list,

Yes, as you predicted I have had no trouble soldering to the wirewrap
leads. So far, I am pretty happy with the jacks I have. You had asked if
I have a 19" rack panel. So here's what I have.

I got this several years ago from Larry, W0OGH. It is a very nice, home
made patch panel.

First photo shows a very neatly drilled aluminum 1U panel. Very evenly
spaced, very professional looking.

There is even a metal track in which to place a long narrow slip of
paper to label each jack.

Turn it over, and you can see that there is a piece of wood that mounts
behind the panel. The weco jacks then use wood screws to fasten the
jack to the wood! Even more interesting is that the wood is just thick
enough to prevent the sleeve of the jack from touching the aluminum
panel. Either way, as has been suggested by several on the list
regarding safety, my sleeves are floating.

So here's how I am setting it up. I have two ST-6s. Each has its own
loop supply. So I am defining two loops within my shack. On the
jackfield, you will see two sets 6 of jacks, separated by one empty jack
place. Each set of six forms a complete, closed loop and connects to one
TU.

So, any piece of equipment can be connected to any one of the two ST-6.
If I want all my equipment on the same loop, I just plug in all the
"sets" into any one of the six jacks of a given loop. When I unplug the
set, the jacks are wired to close the loop in the absence of the plug.

Below, you can see how the left side is now connected to a molex plug
for the ST6 via the left two tie points on the terminal strip.

The right two tie points on the terminal strip will be for loop #2 for
the right side jacks

Thanks everyone for their interest in my little project.
Eugene

...
Do you have a 19 inch rack jack strip with phenolic for the material?
That would me most useful.

Roy
