Eugene,
There is a wonderful little gadget used by WE and by the Army that
appears to be VERY versatile. It's called the 63 C 1 Telegraph Loop
Switchboard. I'll send you off list a picture of one and the diagram
I found inside. It uses T-S jacks, but I suppose you could adapt the
ideas to TRS jacks also. The thing "normals" a loop through a "Set"
jack and two "Looping" jacks for each of four separate loops. So
there are three jacks for each normal loop: one for the "set" (the
Model 15, for instance), and two jacks to allow you to insert
something else into the loop: a T/D or typing reperforator, for
instance.
So with no plugs inserted, the three jacks hook the line to the set.
In most of these switchboards, there is also a row of four
miscellaneous jacks for hooking in other equipment. I puzzled it out
and came to the conclusion that I could run a LOT of equipment with
one of these little boxes and hook anything to anything else.
The early editions of "the Green Book" have diagrams of a teletype
test board which contains many of these features and more.
Here are my thoughts on the TRS jack field for loop supplies:
- little kids are unlikely to get a finger far enough into a quarter
inch jack to get bitten
- A dangling TRS patch cable can be just as hot as a jack, and more
likely to be grabbed by the little one.
- You could make a cover to go over the jack panel and cords to keep
small fingers away
-All my strong talk to our 7-year old about the electric fences we've
had may not have sunk in. I expect she'll get bitten once and then I
won't have to worry any more.
You asked if the bantam the same as PL-068: No, not at all. The
bantam plugs are much smaller than the PL-068.
