Hi Tony -
I'm curious about your trap dipole - especially the coverage you ended up
with and your trap design. I built one and installed it last fall. Mine
covers 80-40-30-20-15-10, and uses RG-58/u coaxial cable traps from the
design found at http://degood.org/coaxtrap
I tuned the traps individually before installation using an old Heathkit
grid-dip meter and my Icom 745 listening for the beat note (instead of a
counter). After tuning the traps and fixing them in place using Plasti-dip
coating, I then used the Icom VSWR meter to trim the wire lengths. I ended
up with this:
Band Trap 2:1 3:1
80 n/a 3835-3880 3825-3895
40 7130 7124-7170 7115-7178
30 10140 10185-10262 10170-10275
20 14137 14010-14150 <14000 - 14167
15 21135 21040-21285 <21000-21370
10 28690 28680-29115 28400-29600
I should have tuned 80 a little higher, and 40 didn't come out exactly where
I wanted, but close enough. I wish the bandwidths were a bit greater. I hope
the traps don't catch fire when I get the BC-610 powered up.
How's your's look? Wonder if the design you used is any better in bandwidth
than my results...
Anyway, I'm almost ready to ask for a RTTY sked, but I'm not quite there
yet. Still having problems with the GRC-46 set (using the Kleinschmidts),
and haven't got the laptop configured with the Dovetron yet. The BC-610 with
M28 equipment is still a ways off.
BTW - will you be using computer or a real Teletype?

GE OMs;
I got my multi-band dipole up.
Works 80 - 60 - 40 - 30 - 17 - 15 - 12 - 10 meter bands.
All with a poor VSWR. I tried doing a little trimming, but nothing
happens. I used the ARRL antenna book to build it and it says right
there that trying to tune a multiband dipole is incredibly frustrating.
My transceiver has a transmatch in it and that handles the problem.
Anyway,
Who's active on the air?
I'd like to make a sked and see if I can work anyone on RTTY.
I'm available:
Mornings: Tue / Wed / Thur
Evenings: Tue / Thur / Fri / Sat / Sun
UE,
