This is a Navy item.  Used AFSK to modulate mainly VHF and UHF AM radios
aboard ship  (TED/RED, etc).  It was Autostart, plus had a form of
"break in" xmtr actuation, when typing on the keyboard or breaking the
xmit loop.

Vintage: post WW2, up into sixties.   A real boatanchor!
