[GreenKeys] Model 28 ASR coming along, the search for a 33 ASR!

Hi All:

I notice the list has been very quiet for a couple of
days...

My work on the Model 28 ASR is coming along well. Main
thing now is to figure out the changes made to the wiring
of the tape reader by the selective calling circuit, and
some work on the printer/perforator. The keboard and
printer are working well.

Now, the main part of this message. Some of you reading my
messages will know I am also looking for an ASR33. Problem
is because of my remote location and shipping costs, it
will have to come from PEI, or at least from the Maritime
Provinces. How I wish I had kept the 33 ASR I used for a
printer on my first few home computers.

However, last night I remembered my employer, Canada Post
used to have a message delivery system, whereby companies
could send letters electronically, and we had to take them
off an ASR-33, insert them into envelopes and put them in
the local mail stream. That service ended about 9 years
ago, and I hadn't seen the machine since.

Last night I was talking to some fellow employees, and one
said he had seen the machine recently in the electrical
room at the plant where it was used to log the alarm on the
plant after the service ended. Apparently it was stored
along with a box of paper rolls. Hmmmm. We went to check,
and darn, it was gone. Apparently it was there until a
month or so ago when it was replaced by a proper printer.

All isn't lost yet. I have left a message with the district
superintendant about it. I am just hoping that instead of
scrapping it, they might have simply moved it to their
storage facility, and that I may still be able to get it
for the museum.

Arggh. So close, but so far away!

Dave, VY2AC
