Mine is actually a western union ticker model 5A so it probably isn't
exactly a 401 but either way, Jack was able to bring it back to life. I
still have a project on my plate to make a polar switching system and
then a program to send out the 6-level code and have this starting
printing modern stock quotes. No time for fun these days.

Not to be pedantic, but the 401 was a Baudot printer made from a ticker.
In WW-II W.U. needed more teleprinters and couldn't get them, and
apparently had a surplus of tickers. Only a few were made, because
W.U. merged with Postal Telegraph and that made available an adequate
supply of regular teleprinters.

Maybe someone with one of the tickers can tell us what model number
W.U. gave it. It doesn't seem to have had a Teletype model number,
because the numbered models were mainly a Bell System thing and the
tickers were not made for the Bell System. It may also have a Teletype
letter code.
