[GreenKeys] tty paint colors

The industry as a whole about 1960 switched from wrinkle paints to
textured vinyl, which was especially durable. The gray-green
wrinkle finish is coded AB and the textured vinyl is GA.

I believe black wrinkle, code AA, was used on some early Model 28
equipment. I have a 28 cabinet which a former owner painted over
with a gray-green latex paint but which was clearly black wrinkle
originally. Unlike most of the 28 cabinets with a space underneath
enclosed by a door, this one is more like a Model 15 table, having
a shelf underneath and quite a bit of space between the shelf and
the floor. That clearance would have been welcome in news room
installations where they liked to use boxed fanfold paper rather
than roll paper.

Something I've never seen, but I've seen it described, is a two-tone
finish for Model 15 equipment. There was an 81C1 automatic switching
system built for Republic Steel in the late 1930s. (I believe all the
later ones were 81D1) It had special cabinetry, including tables for
15s and 19s that were rounded on the corners rather than squared like
the standard Teletype item. I believe the color scheme was two different
flavors of brown. I don't know if this was continued for the 81D1
systems or if they reverted to the standard furniture. (Late 81D1
systems used Model 28 equipment).
