If you can, send me some photos of your perf.

If there is a selector on the front of the unit then it is a reperf, 
and the gearing and shafting is radically different in operation from 
a plain vanilla perforator.

One thing to beware of is that in either case the upper shaft has a 
pile of needle bearings (two groups, perhaps an inch apart), hidden 
inside the punch cam sleeve, and they take the patience of Job (and 
then some) to deal with.

Send some photos, then I can possibly give you some suggestions.
