AFAIKnew, of the two major news distribution agencies found in the
typical stateside broadcast stations, only UPI used the purple ink. I do
think they used a canary colored paper.

AP used black ink on paper somewhat like a heavy newsprint stock, in fanfold
stacks, for the M15 and M20 systems. The few Extels used rolled paper,
IIRC, guessing a bit here, as the Extel didn't have the mechanical pull
for the fanfold boxed paper.

UPI was several years ahead of converting their subscribers to Extel
printers,
in the 1970s, while AP was running M15s and M20s at least through
early 1979, in NC.

One station I worked at, in NC, 1976-1979, had a UPI Extel printer.
