Just a general update about our parts "quest" --- Thanks (again) to
Riceguy - the parts we need for the keyboard base are taken care of (key
board cover and connectors). He's also teaching me quite a bit about
parts of Teletypes I'm not familiar with (never had an RO nor compact -
now we have both - and finding out that that my "assumption" about "a 28
autotyper is a 28 autotyper" might just encounter some "Hmmmm---
Uh-Ohs"... along the way... (well yeah, come to think of it - an RO
autotyper doesn't have much use for a keyboard drive gear, does it?!)...

However - I think that's going to be part of the fun and challenge of
this project. Fortunately - our 28 never had any serious issues in the
7 years we had it (it wasn't used but on very rare occasion the last 2);
so I never really got that deep into it. I did one very thorough
maintenance on it about a year before I sold it - went through all of
the checks / adjustments / lube stuff in the book... but that's still
not like having a major pile of parts on the table while replacing the
main shaft...

So we're off to a good start... our thanks to all who have helped so far!

best regards...
