[GreenKeys] Model 28...

Well - thanks to Riceguy - I'm well on my way to getting a 28. Of course
- considering his great skills at refurbishing - including manufacturing
parts, his idea of "putting together" is a bit extreme! However - to
bring things up to date -

I'm sure some of you remember the "pile of junk parts" offered on ebay
sometime back that consisted of a rusty autotyper sitting on the remains
of a keyboard/base. All of the wiring harness (including connector J101)
had been cannibalized, but it was Model 28 "stuff" so I put in a token
bid and wound up with it- with the intention of salvaging as many spare
parts as I could.

Also some time back a friend offered me a Kleinschmidt that he had
gotten from the local FAA office when they upgraded many years ago. I
posted it here - but with shipping as high as it would be - and the fact
it was in marginal condition at best - no takers. Finally he and I made
a deal as I figured if I could get it "functional" - and I could use it
to work on the computer interface I'm building. Once I put out a request
for a wiring diagram, Riceguy offered the "kit" idea. He had a really
nice compact sans cover but other wise in fine condition. His pitch?
swap. Well- we now know EXACTLY what it cost to ship the TT-98B - at
74.9 pounds packed - OUCH!. However - we now have a working RO in the
house (I'm not sure who's more excited - me or Sherry?). So far - here's
the plan:

Rebuild the keyboard/base we have - replacing the missing parts and
re-wiring. The three parts that are missing (that aren't common parts
like springs or parts I do have) is the 14 pin connector that the LESU
plugs into (J101 or Winchester 12-2P); the eccentric follower pawl for
the auto-shut-off (pawl P/N 195420) -- though that may not be needed if
I can use the 3 speed transmission from the compact - as it appears
there isn't a "cam" for it like on intermediate gear, and some
transmissions. I don't see a cam on this one so I may have to figure a
different way to do auto shut-off. The third item is the key cover -
that part that "wraps" around the sides and bottom of the keyboard.

Of course I'll eventually need an LESU - be nice if it came with a
cabinet ;-) . But in the mean time - I'll use the compact's "terminals"
to make the connections.

Question: just how rare are "standard" table top 28 cabinets (like the
TT-69/70 comes in)?

I'm not in a big hurry, just bringing it up here in case someone is
fixing to rid themselves of some pieces/parts I can use.

I guess while I'm at it - we still need the case w/fan (or not- we can
punt on that!) for a URA-8A -- we do have the filter module. We still
don't have a clue what happened to the case. Best we can figure is that
it probably got thrown out the time we took a tree limb through the
garage roof - and a bunch of stuff was ruined. We had some "help"
cleaning up - and sometimes what looked like "junk" to them -- wasn't...

Thanks much for all the help on the TT-98B - as you probably figured out
from this - Riceguy is taking it on as a project - as good as he is- I'm
glad to know it's going to get a shot at it's former glory.

best regards...
