Bob and List:
This is for general interest to all. Gives an idea of what a "tape
relay"
station looks like. Most of these are typical installations, but varied
from site to site. Tape Relay statoins in the Army also operated in
the field, and were transportable, and were in use in the US Army
thru the 1988 with NATO (Europe) circuits. (I was in the Army for
25 years and tape relays were there when I came into the Army, and
they were there when I left.....).
Some URLs of photos of typical torn tape teletype relay systems are
listed
below, in case anyone wants to take a look at what it is we are talking
about. I am aware that many folks don't know what a tape relay is/was,
so these photos should help somewhat. Comms were done exclusively,
using only tape -- no printers. Most tape gear also printed the message
either on the edge of the tape, or down the tape's center line, so
operators
could read/route accordingly.

There were 4 types of "tape relays": Primary, Major, Minor and
Terminal"
More on those later, if anyone is interested.
Let me know if there are any problems with any of the links. I tried to
copy them accurately......
