Hello List:

I have been reading the various posts on the GreenKeys list. Note that
everyone, and every effort seems to have been made to obtain, operate
and preserve small, single and individual pieces of equipment here and
there. What about the bigger sets?

I would like to know if anyone on the list is familiar (having actually
worked with) tape relay equipment, and if anyone knows if any of
this gear has been preserved, and if so, where?

Specifically, Kleinschmidt AN/TGC-5s, AN/FGC-30s, AN/FGC-70s,
and Teletype Corp models AN/FGC-6, AN/FGC-38 and AN/FGC-39s
variously known in Western Union terms as Teletypewriter Central
Office Sets. (Torn Tape Relay Systems to the military).

The military was most likely the biggest user of this type of equipment,
but the FAA and State Dept used it too, and their use in large, fixed
station relays was quite significant from the 1940 thru the late 1980s.

Appreciate any info, discussion, or comments.

Keep well,

Dave F
