That is a subscriber carrier terminal used to feed a Teletype
machine. It works with a similar unit in the central office. It is a
loop carrier system. These units were used to supply machines that
were a long ways away from the C.O. so that the normal 130 volt loop
could not reach the machine within the voltage and current
limitations. Lenkurt was typically used by independent telephone
companies. The Bell System used Weco 43A carrier and 130 Sub Sets for
the same purpose.

Greetings: This is a tad OT, but you guys know more about telephony
and wire communictions then I ever will, especially history. I
acquired two aluminum boxes (19x7x7 inches) which caught my eye as
potential project enclosures. They consist of an aluminum base plate
with a slip on cover that has rather unique latches on each end of the
top. Inside are a number of filters, af xformers and large mike
bathtub caps. Top is labeled "Lenkurt 23 #10 Terminal". What have I
got and what was it used for? Any particular current use for the
internal components?
