I am not sure who origionally wanted the motor, but I have uploaded some

As far as cleaning off the communitator, it does not need cleaning if just a
brown color. The same for the top of the TD unit used in the modle 19 sets
and such. I think I read where the carbon goes in the copper and sort of
acts like a case hardner.
Some motors with brushes will spark more if unloaded.
The sync motor should not have any brushes in it, just the thing that
changes it over from the start to run windings. It will have a fan on the
back of it. The one with the brushes should have a wheel on the back that
has alternating black and white markings that are used to set the speed with
a 'tuning fork'.
