I thought the idea of using a toothed belt to replace the gears was
down right brilliant! Sorry I can't remember who came up with that.
What would it take to reverse the motor...flip the field leads?? A
friend loaned, I still have them, books of industrial parts and that
is how I got the belts for my AN/UGC-129. They also have all variety
of ratios with pulleys and shaft diameters.
There's no shortage of genius on this list.
