I think it's great to see an article in current day press on the subject.
I think telex, in it's own form will be with us for a little longer.
Telstra (Telecom Australia) handed over their Telex switching to a
private company based in Melbourne on 30 June last year. Like the
article said there is still a small market for it.
Telex in it's other forms such as SITOR (incl. Navtext) and Inmarsat
will surely hang in there as part of the GMDSS.
And if I'm not mistaken, maybe someone can confirm this, but those
little dot matrix printers with telex roll holders you see at the
airports are connected via a 6bit telegraph code that is part of a
large airline computer system. That might have changed now.
