Every issue of 73 I ever saw was more than half full of construction
articles. I recall it had one of the first class D linear amps for HF,
numerous tuners, accessories, transceivers, etc. If you looked long
enough you would find something you couldn't live without. I wish I
could get my hands on some of them from the early to mid 70's. My copies
were lost in a flash flood a couple of decades ago. It was merged with
"Ham Radio" a short time before that disappeared.
Wayne was always a character though. There were rumors he was one of the
founders of Mensa, but left it when it became a social group instead of
the leadership organization he envisioned. The loss of "Byte" left him
bitter for several years. When he started "Kilobaud" he wanted to call
it "Kilobyte" but the lawyers wouldn't let him. He was never anywhere
near politically correct. He also found and provided an outlet for some
amazing jazz musicians. His editorials were always entertaining and
provocative.
