Doug was indeed an engineer for the old Mich Bell Telephone. Worked out of
the North West Office Center. He got me a job as a PBX TTY Repairman right
off the street, as I was a recent US Navy vet and a tty repairman. Met him
through Keith and the old RTTY Society here in Detroit. Doug made many
machines available to local members as they became obsolete and were
released by Western Electric in Plymouth Mich. Those were the fun days with
Auto Start and many other early innovations. Now, I'm a dinosaur along with
my equipment. I can wax nostalgic, but can't stop progress.

I'm on 20m right now sending out an occasional cq. This is my FIRST attempt
at a RTTY QSO and I am using a real teletype! I have no idea what I'm doing,
but it sure is fun! 14.080

Of course, it would be more fun if someone else were there to communication
with!
Eugene

Don't give up, Eugene!! I'm only a short bit away from having my crankup
tower and quad back up. Would be happy to QSO with you when that fine day
comes!!

Wonder if there is anyone in the St Louis area that is interested in
getting on two meters?

At one time I expect there were at least a 100 that monitored the two
meter frequency.
