Just from the photo, it looks like a page printer as used with a
mainframe or at least larger computer system, etc. These can spew
out yards of paper in a very short time, they're used a lot for
printing large amounts of data, like from an automated process, the
monthly log from a telephone exchange other things great fun to
watch. They can empty a case of fanfold in a matter of seconds.
These type of printers were still being sold AFAIK, though laser
printers can surpass them speedwise now. Probably why they're being
replaced.
At least that's my best guess as the type of printer.
