YES Dave,

The infamous de-lamination of old safety glass.  The same happens on  
very old automobile safety glass.

As mentioned earlier all of Teletypes machines except the 26  
originally used glass at different times the companies customers chose  
to substitute plexiglas.

It is much easier to clean glass than plexiglas!

Some trivia....  Teletype used at least three different words for  
these items:  GLASS,  WINDOW,  COVER
