If you want to upgrade and have a choice, get XP Pro.  If you get XP home and later want to try Echolink or IRLP, you'll have a security problem and won't be able to connecto to any station.  I found that out with my XP home.  had to upgrade to a faster PC so got the XP Pro.  Now i get my connections on Echolink and needless to say, i am enjoying it more.
