I did not realize that the "TT-4" was never fielded; but now that you
mention it, I do not remember ever seeing any that were not "TT-4A",
"TT-4B", or "TT-4C".  I spent a year in Viet Nam maintaining TT-4s (along
with a few TT-76s & TT-98s).

The original manual, TM 11-2234, 6 April 1951, is titled "Teletypewriter 
TT-4/TG".  But the operator's manual that replaced it, TM 11-5815-206-12, 8
April 1959, just covers the "TT-4A & "TT-4B" with no mention of the
original "TT-4".  The most recent TM  on the TT-4 I have seen is a change
notice to TM 11-5815-206-12, dated 13 Jan 1984.  So the Army apparently
used the TT-4 for over 30 years!!
