Hello, Rich and members of the Greenkeys list. It's RD here from KSM, back on the Greenkeys list after a long absence.
Thanks for your note. I too am a big fan of W7TTY. We copied his on the air transmissions regularly (on a model 28KSR at the transmit site) and his Internet transmissions (on a model 28ASR at the receive site) just to have the music of an operational Teletype machine in the background. In fact I sent the announcement of KSM RTTY frequencies over his Internet system yesterday. I wonder if any members copied it.
I even got to meet George when he sold me some Boehme and Kleinschmidt Morse code gear to help raise money for his operation. We use those machines at KPH/KSM. He's truly dedicated to the cause of RTTY as we all know. In fact his work was a big inspiration for us as we thought about the possibility of putting the station on RTTY. So we, along with you, offer a big tip of the green eyeshade to George for all his pioneering work.
We can't yet say when the first RTTY transmission will take place since we have a fair amount of work ahead of us to get two transmitters operational on a new mode on new frequencies. I picked frequencies that are close to our 8Mc and 12Mc CW frequencies to make things a bit easier.
After the great response to our announcement we've received from the RTTY community I'm thinking that our first transmission should be a special, even ceremonial event. Rest assured that we'll make an announcement well in advance of that event so everyone can have their equipment at the ready.
Best Regards,
RD
