Dan Robert Carmichael, age 98, Glen Ellyn, IL, Key Biscayne, FL and
Green Lake, WI died at his home in Florida, on January 11, 2006. Dan
was born and raised in Harlan, Iowa, and graduated from Knox College
in Galesburg, Illinois in 1929, where he excelled in track and
football. He was president of his college class, and his Beta Theta
Pi fraternity chapter. In later years Dan was a trustee of Knox
College. Following graduation, Dan married his college sweetheart,
Betty Riggs (Erwin). Dan worked for the Western Electric Company and
its affiliate The Teletype Corporation. He retired in 1972 as
President and CEO of Teletype after 43 years of service in
Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Chicago. Dan was preceded in death by his
wife, Betty. He is survived by his son, Dan (Mary) Carmichael, Jr. of
Ironwood, MI and his daughter Gail (Thomas Jr.) Kimen of Key Biscayne
and Green Lake, and their families. A memorial service will be held
for Dan in Green Lake in the spring.
