[GreenKeys] Is 2006 the Centennial for Birth of Teleprinters?

And if this isn't considered the birth year of Teleprinters, what would it
be and why?

We need a few good reasons to party. Let's propose a National holiday in
honor of American Invention and Innovation. No one would dare argue against
it and we'd all get another holiday! Funding to dive the effort could be
obtained from Hallmark and American Greetings, plus the hotels and tourism
industry.

Hi all,

I was just rereading Irv Hoff's An Introduction to Amateur Radioteletype,
when I noticed his reference:

"...it was not until 1906 that the first teleprinter as we know it, was
invented by Charles Krum...."

Is 1906 the commonly held date for the beginnings of teleprinters? If so,
why aren't we celebrating this centennial event? Pass the ice cream and
cake!
