A firend of mine (who was subbed to this list but is caught somehow in the
spam-filters and can't post now) has rented a pair of ASR32 teletypes to a
movie comapny doing a shoot in Brooklyn. (He is in the Silicon Valley) He is
shipping the machines out today and he will be arriving in NY on Wed.
Over the weekend, I got one of his machines working in 'local' mode, by
connecting a 20ma loop supply to the line leads - it has a fairly strange CCU
in it - some kind of auto-answer card (it has a toggle on the front escutcheon
for line/local and a red and black pushbuttin marked 'start' and 'stop' all of
which do nothing... ) so at least it's working well. He has another machine I
didn't have time to look at, unfortunatetly it's configured completely
differently - he can't make heads/tails of it.
These two machines are going to be shipped to New York today (Monday Oct erd)
and need to be working on Thursday morning. It's not clear exactly what the
scope of "working" is - but what would be cool would be if someone local to the
NY area could arrive Wed the 5th at the location - have a suitable computer
interface (one of Gil's??) and a program like HeavyMetal - which would allow
the ASR32 to type away all by itself - or perhaps simulate an 'interactive'
session - I dunno - I repeat these are BAUDOT machines!
And this would definitely not be a 'volunteer' effort - there is money
available for someone who can successfully help with this.
If you can help, please contact Sellam Ismail at vcf at siconic.com - ASAP and
get better detailed info. Again, this needs to all happen tout suite.
Thanks In Advance!!
Cheers
