All three switches should be set to "auto".  The motor shutoff is not 
instant, but times out with a preset timer (adjustable, if I remember 
right).  If not, something has been defeated in the system.  Loss of signal 
should put the ST-6 into "mark hold" (no gibberish, just motor staying on) 
until that time runs through the system and the motor shuts off.
