Gil,
ROTR is the Receive Only Typing Reperforator.
That is, it types and punches the tape but has no keyboard.
The Roll around one is perhaps the same device, but may be the ROR, Receive
Only Reperforator (with no typing.) There is one of these buried under my
work bench at home.
The typing reperforator does all three: has keyboard (that as I understand
it cannot be used separately as on a page printer), types and punches. If
this one is set up to the right of a T/D (with taught tape switch) you can
type on the tape and have it transmitted as soon as the tape gets to the
T/D if the T/D is in the transmit loop.
This is from memory of recently re-reading Byron Kretzman's book.
