One reason ASCII is not used over the radio was it was not very good copy.
Many hams can not type  at 60 wpm and over while thinking of something to
talk about anyway .  Even 100 wpm Baudot was not as good of copy as the 60
wpm speed.  I think the old model 33 ascii teletype was 110 baud ascii.
That would be even worse for on the air copy.
