Dear Don and Sam,

Thanks for your contributions.

Don, I may not be able to help you with cover photos for the model 12. We
have no Model 12 keyboard transmitter, and I have never seen one. If I can
find a photo in the archives, I will arrange a copy for you. Chances are
slim however. The Start/stop receiving units we have are without covers. The
only Murray apparatus with a cover is the Morcrum Printer in Sydney. It has
a wooden box with sound proofing but I don't know if this was 'original' or
made in the Post Office workshops. The design etc. is not unlike the wooden
boxes used with some Creed 7B page printers which could also be Post Office
designed. Please advise if any of this will be of use to you.

I accessed your site, Sam, and immediately recognised the two keyboards. The
Sydney museum has at least one keyboard with the coloured keytops. I can't
remember if it has one or two space bars, but will try to find out. What is
interesting about this model is that the keys are hinged towards the back of
the keyboard, and as you press them down you can feel a rotating motion.
That is, they don't go down vertically. Both Sydney and Brisbane have
examples of the second keyboard. On this model the key stems go down a hole
in the casting just under the keys, and thus keys move down vertically when
pressed. I will have to check the character allocation when at the museum on
Wednesday. As both keyboard designs have survived, and would have been in
use at the same time, the actual codes produced by both keyboards would have
had to be the same.

Regards,

Richard YOUL
