Dear friends,
Apparently there is some misunderstanding regarding the Teletype
machine I have at auction on eBay: Item Number 5842404529
I am now living in Illinois, much to my displeasure. Our former
museum in California is being deeded to the San Diego State
University (SDSU) for permanent display. Eventually the university
would like to erect a museum building. For now it will be on display
in the SDSU Library. It is with many mixed feelings that this
transfer is taking place. I have hundreds of hours invested in the
museum since I founded NADCOMM in 1984. I also invested
approximately $14,000. in purchases, shipping, transportation, and
hardware required to display and operate the equipment.
David Weil and I will be on call for demonstrations and for
supporting movies in various parts of the country, mostly California
and Chicago areas. I also act as a link to others in different parts
of the USA when other studios need technical support with Teletype
machines. Jack Hart, for example is supporting a movie about the
history of the CIA. David just finished operating a TELEX for a
movie in California documenting the shooting of Robert Kennedy.
The 28 RO/KSR that I put on auction on eBay is one of the few
machines that I actually own. I picked this one out of a dumpster
behind a radio station in Chicago some 8 or 9 years ago. I would
like it to go to someone who has the time to finish restoring it. I
have at least $25. in parts in the machine. (new gears and loop power
supply.)
I still am paying monthly storage fees for part of the museum
collection and have equipment waiting to ship to SDSU as soon as it
can be collected and packed for the voyage to San Diego. Some is in
Ohio, some in Florida, and some here in Ringwood.
I appreciate all of the support many of you have provided over the
years. At least you know everything will be preserved in an active
display with a permanent home. So much better than sitting in a
desert warehouse waiting for museum space and sponsors.
If anyone would like to contribute to the effort, the San Diego
Computer Museum is still able to receive donations as we just
received the final paperwork for 501c3 from the IRS. Alternatively
contributions can be made to the San Diego State University Library
for the preservation of computer and data communications equipment.
If anyone has any further questions I would be glad to answer them.
Please stop sending me hate mail. THANKS!
73,
Don
