OFF TOPIC BUT VERY IMPORTANT>>>
ATTENTION CURRENT AND FUTURE RETIREES:
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO ENCOURAGE YOUR U.S.
REPRESENTATIVE TO COSPONSOR H.R. 1322, THE
EMERGENCY RETIREE HEALTH BENEFITS PROTECTION ACT
OF 2005.
Congressman John Tierney (D-MA) has reintroduced
H.R. 1322, the Emergency Retiree Health Benefits
Protection Act of 2005. The bill addresses the
national crisis in post-retirement cutbacks of
retiree health care benefits.
We need your support to encourage legislators to
cosponsor H.R. 1322 and support the provisions of
the legislation that would prohibit employers
from canceling or reducing health benefits that
retirees were promised. The bill is the product
of substantial study and hard work and reflects a
continuation of the essential approach taken in
ERISA itself - where needed safeguards for
participants in private sector pension and health
plans were balanced by a respect for the
voluntary nature of the plans themselves.
Here is how you can take action on this issue:
1) Go the NRLN website at <http://www.nrln.org>
2) Type your zip code in the "Write to
Congress" box at the top of the home page.
3) You will be directed to an "Action
Alertî" box. Please click on the first alert
regarding H.R. 1322.
4a) You will be directed to the "Action Alert" regarding H.R. 1322.
4b) Please type in your zip code
again in the "Take Action" box to the right.
5) You will be directed to a screen that
provides a sample letter either asking your
legislator to cosponsor H.R. 1322 or thanking
your legislator if he or she is already a
cosponsor. The system automatically provides the
correct letter for you based on the zip code that
you entered.
Please follow the directions carefully. We urge
you to add your own messages to the form letters,
as it is very meaningful to legislators to see
and hear the personal stories of their
constituents.
Thank you very much for taking action on this
important issue to retirees. It is essential
that we continue to get our message out to
Congress through all retirees.
