Teletype built on the corner of Wrightwood and Southport. Then as the
business grew the building was added to, until it occupied the entire
width of the block (and about half a block deep). It appears that all
but the original building was torn down and replaced by condo buildings
that run perpendicular to the street and are separated by driveways.
I walked by there last week. Couldn't get into the original building,
so I asked a workman - there is some painting or remodeling going on -
and he told me the building is all condos. So I guess those are
"interior" condos in contrast to the new ones built on the property that
face their driveways. The steps inside the entrance look just as I
remember them from 1959. They have kept the Teletype name over the
entrances (1400 Wrightwood and 2600 Southport) but replaced the original
light fixtures with some modern ones that have not held up well.
