I have been working with the National Cryptologic Museum of the National
Security Agency for some time and have encouraged them to set up an exhibit
of World War II teletype cryptography, namely SIGTOT and the system using
SIGCUM- for you crypto fans. It is in the plans and I have sent to them
two Model 15's, a Model 19, a Model 14, an extra TD, tape holder, and three
polar relays. along with a suppy of paper rolls and blank tape.
Hopefully they will start on the space for it in a few months.
One Model 15 and Model 14 were working at my place but the other 15 and
the 19 will take a cleaning, reoiling etc. to make work. They probably have
in mind a static exhibit but I would like to see the equipment made
operational. Once set up it will be a memorial to this vintage of teletype
for evermore.
Is there anyone near the Fort George Meade, MD area (near Washington D.
C. and Bethesda, MD) who would be interested in advising them in setting the
equipment up and even tackling the refurbishing project. It would be in the
national interest in preserving this World War II technology for future
generations.
