Howdy Tom! A straight PostScript font could do the same thing,
but you'd need to custom hand-code it. It would have the
advantage of working with any PostScript-capable printer
or application.
But it would be tough in either PostScript or TeX. But is it
necessary, especially for the first approximation?
For my selfish purposes, all I need is an overstrike-capable
font I can use in Illustrator.
