Hello --
As some of you know, I am working (slowly) on the development of a digital typeface family that replicates character forms used
on Teletype equipment in the Model 28 series.
Typography is a complex science as well as an artform. While it is certainly possible to hack up a font (just do a Google search
for thousands of examples of poorly-designed digital fonts), a good and lasting design requires a lot more thought and insight.
Many of the very best fonts are based on designs originally cut centuries ago, in which considerable research was done on the
historical antecedents.
Does anyone know if there are archives from Teletype Corp still in existence? I am quite interested to examine any documentation
or communications documenting the design of the characters used by Model 28 machines (printers, typing reperforators) for all the
different language/characters sets that Teletype supported.
I will be in Chicago in September, so could add a couple of days to my trip in case material is available around the area.
Thanks for any pointers.
