Hi Roy

Things are looking up for the ST5A. I did what my first electronics teacher
told me to do 20 years ago. He was a radio engineer, radio star in LA in the
40s and one eccentric teacher. "Put the screw driver down. Take a walk on the
desert, and then come back and clean every thing that conducts." The ST5A
has one push in circuit board with all the important RTTY stuff on it. Those
contacts were so dirty, I am surprised that it even received and sent to the
loop. I cleaned both male and female parts of the connection. (Remember the two
frequencies in bed with each other?) Well, I hooked the ST5A back up to the
MMTTY scope and sure as I Love Lucy, the frequencies separated to their
separate beds. Now when I send from the TD or keyboard to the MMTTY program, MMTTY
copies without missing a letter. We are getting closer to pounding Teletype
Iron here on the desert. BUT, and this may be a problem. One which a think
that I read about. The ST5A sends out a signal AFSK and MMTTY adjusts over and
says the ST5A is transmitting on 2191 instead of 2125. It stays directly on
2191 as it transmits, with the shift I guess. 2191 minus 170 is 2021. Am I
getting close to something here???

All the mechanical are looped, oiled and printing and punching. And they
send to the computer now and the computer can send to them. Is that what you
were asking Roy? The PEMCO ST5-A manual will be the thing.

Thanks for getting back to me Roy.
Jan
