[GreenKeys] Christmas Question From KD6EMW

YOU can put everything in series. One way to do it is to use the old time
1/4 inch phone jacks that earphones used to use. Put several in series that
are the self closing types. That is if you pull the plug out then the
terminals short so there is a path through it. You will have to mount
them on a nonconducting material. Juat be ware the shells (rings) can be
about 150 volts DC (the value of a loop suppoy) above ground.
If you have everything in series and start typing then every device with a
set of coils in it will start to work. If you send a tape through the TD
then everything with coils will start to type.
If you do not want a printing device to be active just turn off that motor.

YOu can print and transmitt at the same time if you want to. In a loop
everything is active and you just turn on the motor or enable the device or
devices you want to use.

The deedle just makes the mechanical machines make more noise. It really
should be on for some demodulators work beter at machine speed than they do
with hand typing. By leaving the deedle on those with the beter demodulers
even with a mechanical printer will get beter print under not so good
conditions off the air.

The newer rigs stay on frequency just fine with out the crystals. Not sure
what Heathkit youhave but the old SB101 I had would stay on frequency just
fine after it warmed up for about 30 minuits.
For netting the stations it may be best to have a crystal as on your
heathkit you may be hard pressed to reset it to 10 hz or so you will need
for unattended printing.
